Editor of the Month - RD

Editor of the month at Romance Divas

Angela James, editor extraordinaire, is coming to Romance Divas for a 3 day class on Epublishing! Come join us Jan 13-15 and ask her anything.

Everything You Ever Needed to Know About Epublishing (and some things you didn't know you should know)

Why doesn't epublishing offer advances? What are some of the pros and cons of publishing my manuscript via epublishing? How do I research publishers? Can I really make money in epublishing? What exactly is POD? Can you give me a snappy comeback for people who say that epublishing isn't real publishing?

Epublishing has evolved and grown, especially in the last 5 years, but with growth comes pitfalls and problems, and trusting an epublisher with your baby might seem like a risky proposition. We'll cover the basics of epublishing, from choosing an epublisher and contract details to methods of ebook and print distribution to reasons why you might not want to epublish your manuscript.

Bio:

In 2005, Angela James joined Samhain Publishing, Ltd, a small press company focusing on digital publishing, as its executive editor, where she has played an instrumental role in building the company from the ground up. In her executive position at Samhain, Angela is responsible for managing the publisher's editorial services division. Her responsibilities include the management of editorial staff, quality oversight, networking and marketing efforts at regional, national and international writing conferences to promote the electronic publishing industry as well as Samhain.

In addition to her administrative duties, Angela continues to edit more than 50 authors including national bestselling authors Lucy Monroe, Lilith Saintcrow and Deidre Knight.

At Year's End

This is the time of year that we take stock in what we accomplished and what went undone. Christmas is over, the decorations are coming down, the tree is going back into the attic for another year. This can be a slow time of year with no holidays to look forward to and cold, cold weather. (at least where I am)

Look back over the year and you might be pleasantly surprised of all you got done. Don't beat yourself up over what went unfinished. The joy of each day is the ability to add new to-do's to it.

Each day is an opportunity to set new goals and reach them. The new year is bright and shiny and ready for new goals, new accomplishments, and new fun to be had.

Have a Happy New Year and a great 2009. Jill James

Happy Holidays

I've had many blessings this year. Good friends, close family, a renewed relationship with my brother, new understanding of my children and grandchild. I've enjoyed 2008 and look forward to 2009.

May blessings and happiness rain on you this New Year.

Happy Holidays, Jill James

Blog a Blog

Murderati is an awesome group blog, run by thriller and crime writers. The opinions are as varied as the works of literature they produce. The discussions run from the business of writing, where inspiration comes from, and their personal journeys of the writing life.

First Line Contest

The fun has begun at Karin Tabke's blog. Another First Line Contest has arrived. On start day she took the first 100 lines sent in. She received the hundred lines in 9 minutes. Now the fun begins. This first week 20 lines will be eliminated. I'm line 39 so if you get a change stop by and see if I make the first cut. If you don't write or you didn't make it in stick around anyway. The contest is a lesson in making every word count. Jill James

Blog a Book

Die Before I Wake
by Laurie Breton

This tale had a gothic feel to it. The only thing missing was the windswept manse on the cliff over the raging sea. Julie thinks she has married Mr. Perfect. Tom is a doctor. He is father to two wonderful daughters. He seems to adore Julie. But all is not right in Happy Marriage Land. His mother hates her. The oldest daughter is just waiting for Julie to leave. And clues seem to lead to the ugly truth about Tom's first wife's death. Great twists and turns as Julie fears she can trust no one and has no where to turn as her life is in danger; one accident after another.
